Information on the USDA
With the dramatic increase of global trade over the past decade, United States agricultural regulators have expanded the number of products regulated by the Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service in order to curtail potential damage to U.S. agriculture caused by insects and other harmful elements brought into the country in imported products.
It is essential that AFIA members be aware of the full range of products subject to regulation, many of which they import. The list includes:
- Artificial Christmas trees with real wood trunks
- Wheat and wheat straw
- Rice and rice straw
- Bamboo stakes and poles
- Corn and corn relatives
- Natural wood products
For specific information, AFIA members should go to a website set up to inform importers and others about these new regulations: www.aphis.usda.gov.
